KPTM Bangi Hosts National Inter-College Accounting Quiz Competition 2017

Bangi, 22nd April 2017 – Kolej Poly-Tech MARA (KPTM) recently collaborated with the Institut Akauntan Malaysia (MIA) to co-host the National Inter-College Accounting Quiz Competition (N.ICAQC) 2017 at its Bangi campus. 61 teams made up of 183 participants from 37 institutions all over the country took part in the competition.

KPTM CEO, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Sabaruddin Mohd said that the objective of the competition is to gather accounting diploma students from various public and private institutions across the nation. Previously, the participation is limited only to degree and SPM students.

While the CEO of MIA, Dr. Nurmazilah Dato' Mahzan said MIA was proud to collaborate with KPTM to co-host this year’s competition. As this is the first time the accounting quiz was held for accounting diploma students and in view of the overwhelming responses from the students, MIA hoped this competition will be held every year.

She also added that accounting quiz is the best platform to motivate and enhance the student’s knowledge in the field of accounting. Dr. Nurmazilah believed the excitement shown by the participants in the recent N.ICAQC 2017 will stimulate their competitive spirit and it is also a good opportunity for them to improve their communication skills.

According to the N.ICAQC 2017 event coordinator, Encik Mohamad Nasir Mohamed Nazri, it took approximately 8 months for the members to prepare for the event starting from August 2016 until April 2017.

He also added that this event provides an opportunity for students from various institutions to get to know each other, building an effective network and eventually growing and adapting to the ever-changing outside world.

There were four rounds of quizzes; the preliminary, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final. Only four subjects were tested; Financial Accounting, Financial Management, Auditing and Taxation.

Each participant is required to answer 50 multiple choice questions in 30 minutes during the preliminary round on an individual basis. Of the 61 teams, only the remaining 35 will qualify to the quarter-finals.

Next, the participants will have to answer 50 multiple choice questions within 60 minutes individually.

Only 15 top teams will qualify for the semi-finals round. Participants then had to choose a question by difficulty level in the semi-finals which only 5 teams will enter the final. In the final, the participants are allowed to select questions for the opponents.

The finalists were Politeknik Kota Kinabalu, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Tapah, Perak (Group A), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Machang, Kelantan (Group B) and Kolej Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman.

At the end of the competition, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College was crowned champion of N.ICAQC 2017. Their victory was flanked by Politeknik Kota Kinabalu and the second runner-up, UiTM Tapah.
