Foundation in Commerce is a one-year introductory course designed for students who have completed their SPM, O-Level or equivalent. KUPTM’s foundation course broadens students’ general knowledge, develops their communication skills and improves their understanding of world issues and events. The subject listing also aims to provide pathway for students to transition smoothly into tertiary level studies locally or abroad.

Foundation in Commerce provides students with a wide-ranging understanding on the theoretical and applied aspects of business and commerce. It focuses on the holistic development of well-rounded students in both critical thinking and communication skills through broad-based selection of subjects in the first two semesters where subjects such as Communication, English, Mathematics, Economics and Study Skills are taught. Students take specialist subjects in the third semester and they may choose from track 1 for Business or Track 2 for Accounting which guides and prepare them towards their undergraduate studies.

The programme is also suitable for students who only to acquire the essential skills and competencies to qualify them for entry-level positions in a wide range of business organisations. Upon completion of this programme, students may gain entry into management, business or accounting degree programme of their choice.
